Interactive Consulting founder David Mitchell was asked over two years ago to assist my nonprofit organization in updating their website. Little did we know the transformation that would take place and I am writing this to highly recommend his insight and services. At the time, as the incoming president for the Northwest PeriAnesthesia Nurses’ Association (NPANA), I had served as a board member for approximately one year. We were still using paper registration for conferences, mass e-mails for voting and a very uninspiring website to communicate with professional nurses across five diverse states. David initially met with the board members to simply understand the purpose and vision of the organization. Afterwards, he thoroughly investigated everything on his own. This included calling the national (ASPAN) office leaders for clarity and to better understand our mission, learning more about the nursing specialty itself and looking at other similar organizational webpages for benchmarking and ideas. When the actual build was complete he showcased the sites many features to the group. We were excited to use the online registration feature for an upcoming conference and found this to be a huge timesaver. After the launch, there was so much more that we discovered. I was impressed that David also took the time to meet with our communication coordinator to train on updating information, creating newsletters, on-line registration for conferences, mass communication e-mail set-up and changing the visual appeal graphics. The resulting website and functionality was stunning and has been easy to maintain. He continues to monitor us for needs that come up and has been an amazing wealth of knowledge and resources. Since the initial launch, our organization has grown tremendously. This is noticed not just numerically but in the engagement of members at educational offerings. There is a growing sense of community and belonging. At the last conference, we actually had a group of five millennial members approach us and volunteer as a committee to organize and host the next conference in their location. I am sure the ability to see our strategic plans and goals inspired this group. Additionally, we have many new local members organizing seminars, applying for and promoting scholarships for national offerings, forming committees and coming up with innovative ideas to increase membership and research for the perianesthesia specialty. Typically the majority of this work was done by the five or six board members for the entire region. Because David had the wisdom to link social media accounts to the new site, there continues to be an influx of younger nurses joining and stepping up to leadership positions and bringing their energy, technology skills and enthusiasm. David’s skill and ability to put ideas into action have left their mark on NPANA. I did not realize how key the “face” of an organization is as things are set into motion. His costs have been minimal compared to the lasting effects that have taken place and I would not hesitate to recommend him and his company to anyone needing these creative services.
